Dear Advent Friends,

The rapid spread of the coronavirus, and the illness it causes, COVID-19, are causing us to rethink how we do church together for a while.

We are closely watching the situation as it develops in our community, and will keep adapting our strategies as needed.

We are now posting on our website the Gospel readings and the sermons for each of the coming Wednesdays and Sundays through Easter, (www.adventchurch.org). Just click on the CONNECT button at the top of the page and you will see a tab for SERMONS. Click on that to see the sermons listed by date. So far, there is just the one from Sunday, March 15th. We will be adding the new Wednesday and Sunday sermons each week.

We are very grateful to our pastors and to those who are recording and making it possible to post these messages of the season.

  • In order to keep posting these clips online each week, we need a few volunteers to learn how to reformat the DVD clips and get them ready for posting. It only takes about 30 minutes or so to do. We will train you! Please contact the office at secretary@adventchurch.org if you would be willing to volunteer. Send questions to tech@adventchurch.org if you want more information on performing this function for the church. We will get back to you with information for this.

Meanwhile, though we are not physically together, the needs and expenses of the church and the ministries we support are ongoing. Our friends at Cross still depend on the food pantry and the meals. Mr. Bob and his crew will still be helping his friends, although in a modified way. (See his website for more details.)

We still have a building to heat and salaries to pay. God’s call to serve goes on, no matter what is happening in the world.

This time of uncertainty is a really good time to consider switching to online giving.

Online giving is a good way to be faithful in serving others. It’s a reliable and easy way to continue to support the community and mission of Advent, whether you are able to be physically at worship or not.

Click here for instructions on how to set up online giving.

Here’s a link to sign up for online giving. It is safe, secure and easy.

If you do not want to consider online giving, you can mail your offering to the church or even drop it off at the office or in the mail slot to the right of the main entry doors.

We will keep communicating with you. Our office will still be open 9-12 Monday-Friday.

Friends, we need to be very intentional about how we keep in communication with each other. Call or email those Advent friends who may choose to stay home for safety’s sake. Check in with each other. Sending a note or card is always appropriate and always appreciated. Let’s preserve the caring Advent culture we have developed over the years and generations.

Soon, we’ll be posting some more ways you can nourish your faith life, worship at home, and serve others. Feel free to contact any member of the Council with your questions and concerns.
