Pastor Alexis Twito grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Rufus King High School.

She was ordained in 2010, and her first call was as an assistant pastor in a large congregation in Moorhead, MN. Her focus was to lead Social Concerns and Children’s Ministry. She came back to the Greater Milwaukee Synod to serve at Capitol Drive Lutheran Church, and also served as an interim associate pastor at Lake Park Lutheran Church.

Pastor Alexis loves to travel, and explore other cultures and has a deep interest in all kinds of people. Before entering seminary, she invested a year working with the homeless in Edinburgh, Scotland, through the ELCA’s Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) program.

She has a deep and abiding passion for social justice and activism, going back to her teen years.

For the last five years, Pastor Alexis has been living out her faith and passion for justice as she built and coordinated a ministry of chaplains caring for people at some of the worst moments of their lives. The program she developed for The Salvation Army works directly with the Milwaukee Police Department, and connects volunteer chaplains with people and families who are experiencing sudden trauma in their lives: sudden deaths, house fires, suicides, and other life-shattering situations. The program now has 55 chaplains from 19 different denominations. All of the chaplains have received special training in how to offer emotional and spiritual care to families and individuals in traumatic situations. It has become a national model for The Salvation Army and other groups.

We at Advent are happy to welcome Pastor Alexis Twito to Cedarburg beginning July 15, and look forward to growing deeper on our faith and commitment to loving and caring for others.
